My coffee table is one of my favourite builds. I based it on the Ana White coffee table with storage (https://www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/coffee-table-inset-top-storage). I omitted the bottom shelf because I chose to use 1x8s for my storage box depth instead of the 1x6s, so there was too little space to make it worth a bottom shelf in my opinion. Mine is also easy to vacuum around and under too, so that is something to consider. I personally don’t want to have to move furniture when vacuuming.

I love my table! I chose vintage handles and hinges. The hinges match those that I put on my foyer storage bench. I like the hammered metal look. The coffee table was almost fully assembled using glue and my highly favoured Ryobi Air Strike nail gun. It only took me three days to build and finish painting. This a super easy and fun weekend project. You won’t regret adding a storage table to a living room.

For this project, you will need:

Safety glasses and mask for cutting and sanding

Mitre saw and measuring tape

Material of choice (I used wood for everything other than the doors and the box base, which were mdf) https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/categories/building-materials/lumber-and-composites/dimensional-lumber-and-studs.html

Sander and sand papers (100-220 grits)

Nail gun and brads – and glue

Drill/driver to attach hardware

Paint or stain (I used black paint by Rustoleum for the outside [https://www.homedepot.ca/product/rust-oleum-painter-s-touch-multi-purpose-paint-in-semi-gloss-black-946-ml/1000140786], and a grey Varathane stain for the inside [https://www.homedepot.ca/product/varathane-ultimate-oil-based-interior-wood-stain-in-carbon-grey-236-ml/1001048595?rrec=true] and lined it with shelf paper)
